Our March Speaker is Marcia Brandes and the topic will be “Have Camera – Will Travel!”

Enjoy a whirlwind photographic tour of the world while learning how to decide what kind of travel might be best for you. Get ideas for exciting places to visit. See examples of how to quickly turn a snapshot into an image you can be proud of.

Travel photography offers the opportunity to capture it all – Nature and Wildlife, People and Culture, Architecture, Experiences, Macro, Abstract and sometimes photos that are just plain fun. Marcia will open with a short explanation of the pros and cons of three types of travel: commercial tour groups, photography tours, and independent itineraries. She’ll offer suggestions for researching each of these travel opportunities.

Next Marcia will show a wide range of examples from her journeys to show the diversity and excitement of travel photography. She hopes to inspire her audience to have as much fun as she does telling the stories of fascinating places both at home and abroad. Marcia will end with a selection of before and after examples showing how simple corrections can take your travel photos to the next level.

About Marcia Brandes

Marcia Brandes has lived in Atlanta, GA for 50 years. She and her business partner founded Phoenix Galleries Inc., one of the first female-owned businesses in the home furnishings industry. For 33 years they designed and manufactured framed artwork, selling it to furniture companies, designers, and the hospitality industry.

While developing giclee prints from the original canvases her artists

produced, Marcia became proficient in Photoshop. Once digital cameras

became standard, she photographed the artwork for sales photos and then added her black and white nature photographs to her company’s portfolio of images for sale.

Since she retired, Marcia has been an involved member of the Georgia

Nature Photographers Association (GNPA) and a charter member of their Conservation Photography Committee. She was chairman of that committee for 2 ½ years and is on the board of GNPA.

A passionate traveler, Marcia has visited all 50 states and all 7 continents, cities and remote areas alike – all with her camera in hand. For many years she had feature articles in International Travel News – which recently folded due to Covid’s travel restrictions. She has won awards for her photos at exhibitions by Southeastern Photographic Society and GNPA and as a new member of the Peachtree Corners Photography Club, she has 5 photos in the Light Is Hope Exhibition. Her photos are elegant reminders of the beauty and diversity of our world.
