The January Technical Webinar speakers will be Tracey Rice, Richard Phillips, and David Schilling and the topic will be “Understanding The 12 Elements of a Merit Image and Why They Matter”. The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 6:30 pm.
Whether you are choosing a photo to put into a competition or critiquing your photo to decide how to make it more impactful, understanding the 12 Elements of a Merit Image is sure to help you! These elements were developed by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and are used by the judges in their international competition to determine which submitted photographs will be awarded a merit. These elements were also used by our judge for the upcoming “Light Is Hope” exhibition. Becoming familiar with the 12 Elements will help tune your eye to making better photos.
In this webinar, Tracey, Richard and David will explain how the elements were developed, what they are, why they are important, and show examples of each element at work in photos. After defining and showing examples of all 12 elements, the audience will participate in viewing photos and discussing which elements they think are being used.
